Forget Cold Chisel, Ticketmaster are now promoting your PII to global crime syndicates

ShinyHunters claims to have stolen over a terabyte of data from Ticketmaster containing, exposing the personal details of  560 million of its customers to the highest bidder.

No doubt over the next few months and years this stolen PII (personally identifiable information) will be used to conduct all sorts of nefarious operations with the sole aim of stealing money by whatever means necessary.  ShinyHunters have reportedly demanded a ‘modest’ half-million dollar ransom but even if that is paid there is no way to know if the stolen data will be later released to global crime syndicates.

Other than remaining vigilant and keeping an eye on your credit card statements there is not a lot more you can you if your data has been exposed in this attack but there are some things you can do to protect yourself from future incidents.

  • Use a password manager such as LastPass or those built-in to most web browsers
  • Make sure Multi-Factor-Authentication is enabled for every online account you have
  • Sign up yourself and your business colleagues for a cyber awareness training program
